Lancia Beta HPE
…and cutting
And then we began painstakingly to re-create the scuttle area
We started at the inside and worked our way out
Here you can see the inner panel primed and ready to be closed up
That panel closed up and moving our way outwards…
A post pretty nearly built up now
Inner area primed and ready to be closed up
A post going back together – we even managed to re-create the original swage lines
Finished and waiting for primer
Red oxide applied to the area
Inner wing and strut top repair
Close-up of finished strut top
After the scuttle, the rest of the car was pretty straightforward! Here’s the car blocked down and waiting for primer
Masked off and ready to go!
After the first primer coat we removed the external panels and painted the shell and panels separately
Final colour coat
The engine bay was very scruffy so that was painted and detailed too
Finished engine bay – amazingly, we managed to do this without removing the engine!
Finished car, front view
Finished car, rear view
This is a view from inside after we had removed the dash and steering column
Although this HPE (possibly the last RHD S1 left!) was in generally beautiful condition, the scuttle was virtually non-existent!
Top of the McPherson strut mounting…
So we started cutting…
