Now we made a new subframe mount in the form of a metal box with a captive nut in the top as on the original
Inner sill and footwell panels welded in place
The only way to solve the problem properly is to cut out a large cubic space and remake it
The same area from the outside
The subframe mounts on this car were rotted out and unsound, but totally invisible until the subframe was removed
As well as the subframe mountings, the subframe itself was rotting from inside
We cut away the rotted sections and remade the formers inside
Next, we made new external sections for the rotted areas
Red oxide primer on the affected areas. Note that the subframe is welded to a jig during the whole process, to avoid distortion and keep its shape
The finished job, powder-coated black
The engine was absolutely disgusting…
…and so was the engine bay!
